The Hymnal Project

Today
there is a short supply of hymnals that are reformed in theology, excellent in
musical expression, adhering to proper grammar in both text and music, and
still being published. This project is
an effort to solve that problem.
The goal
of The Hymnal Project is to compile a hymnal to be used in private, family and
corporate worship that is theologically correct, that adheres to good musical
standards, and has a proper marriage of music and text. The project will be in several phases.
Phase One
The
selections will be those hymns that have generally stood the test of time; the
best of the best. Also included will be
all 150 Psalms set to music, and all of the Psalms and Proverbs arranged in
scripture readings. The hymnal will be
available in hardbound and spiral books, as well as PDF files. All of the hymns will also be available in an
mp3 format that consists of an introduction and all verses played by piano,
pipe organ, and strings.
The
first edition of this hymnal will be published in 2009 under the oversight of Trinity Reformation Baptist Church.
Phase Two
Phase
Two consists of designing a piano curriculum that has the hymnal as its basis. This is a piano method, from a biblical
worldview, that can be use to instruct students from beginner to advanced
levels.
Phase
Three
Phase
Three will add a singing curriculum, again using the hymnal as the basis, so
that all written parts of a hymn can be learned.
Phase
Four
Phase
Four is an opportunity to network with current and aspiring hymn writers. There has been a great lack of both
theologically astute and musically excellent hymns produced in recent decades,
and we want to prepare the next generation to address this deficiency.
